Weed control spraying

Sunwest Waterway Management offers premier weed control for native and invasive aquatic vegetation. We utilize herbicides as well as chemical applications to help rid your waterway of such weeds. Rest assured that all of the algaecides and herbicides that we use are EPA approved and are given careful consideration before use in your lake or pond. The last thing we want is to damage the existing ecosystems and habitats.

Aquatic weed identification

Algae and aquatic weeds are a common nuisance to many lakes and ponds, as they can drastically affect water quality, negatively impact aquatic ecosystems and hide the true beauty of a lake. Unfortunately, though these negative impacts can be seen almost immediately, properly identifying the species of algae or aquatic weed is an integral step in determining how to successfully combat them. Luckily, we have 30+ years of experience in this department!

Algae removal

Without identifying the species of algae, any algaecides or herbicides used are likely to fail, making it all the more important to undertake effective research before attempting any controls. This could then allow for effective algae control as well as improving the aesthetics of your pond by allowing you to see its real beauty.

Aquatic management

Good lake management requires the trifecta of impeccable beauty, functionality and aquatic health. That is why complex ecosystems often have complex problems. To ensure these standards are met and exceeded, we leverage proactive weed and algae management solutions. This combination will ensure the long-term health of your ecosystem, so that you can enjoy its beauty for years to come.

Common types of algae include

  • Filamentous algae
  • Planktonic algae
  • Macro-algae
  • Golden algae

Plants commonly mistaken for algae include

  • Watermeal- Watermeal has a light green appearance and is a floating plant with no roots. It grows rapidly, overtaking lakes and ponds much like algae. This plant is often transferred between ponds on the bodies of waterfowl.
  • Duckweed- Duckweed grows viciously and can overtake a pond before you know it, covering the body of water in a layer of small green leaves. Duckweed can be identified by examining the miniature root that extends into the water under the small floating leaves.
